Pippa Middleton and Britney Spears come from very different backgrounds. But when it comes to their choice for weight loss, they both rely on high protein low carb diets. And for Pippa, who has become famed for her athletic prowess, protein power is the key to energy as well, reported E News on August 5.

"To maintain energy I try to eat more protein, particularly fish or chicken," said Pippa. "A lot of people swear by carb-loading in the run-up to an event but it doesn't really work for me, so I just up my protein intake."

Pippa successfully participated in the Bosphorus Cross Continental Swimming Race in Istanbul. She supplemented her protein with brown rice for carbohydrates.

When she decides to lose weight, as she did before her sister Kate Middleton's royal wedding, Pippa uses the Dukan diet. It is a high protein low carb diet that her mother also utilized.

Why are high protein low carb diets so effective for weight loss? A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association revealed that dieters on a low carb diet burned 300 calories more than those on a low-fat diet.

One benefactor of the benefits of low carb diets is Britney Spears. She successfully slimmed down recently, reported ABC News on August 7.

Following Kim Kardashian's lead in showing off her weight loss by using social media, Britney posted a photo of herself. "Amazing amazing shoot with @jefflipsky today! Been working hard this summer!" she wrote.

Britney's trainer, Tony Martinez, shared his diet and fitness tips and inside information about Britney in an exclusive interview. "Smart nutrition is half the battle," emphasizes Tony.

And rather than offer advise such as zero-carbs or drastic detox diets, Tony takes the opposite approach. "Moderation and balance are major factors in weight loss," says Tony. "Everybody's body type is different."

However, he does believe in protein power and a low-carb diet, emphasizing that by adding more lean protein and changing your food plan from one full of "bad carbs" (like French fries) to low carb (think chicken breasts), you can achieve your own weight loss goals.

In addition, says Tony, "a lot of people eat out - but that doesn't mean that your diet has to be derailed. Seek healthy choices wherever you are."

Tony has helped Britney by educating her about "the difference between healthy nutrition foods. This will make her a smarter eater for life," he said.

When it comes to exercise, Tony focuses on Britney's core as well as achieving the highest athlete workout performance level possible." He uses a "work out smarter, not harder" philosophy to make the most of Britney's limited time.
