Britney Spears and ex-fiancé Jason Trawick announced their split last Friday, but new details about the breakup emerged on Jan. 14. Insiders told “Fox411’s Pop Tart," the two have been on the outs for months and Trawick broke it off.
"It has really been in motion awhile. Jason has been very stressed and concerned for Britney and what she might do if he left," a source told "FOX411's Pop Tart's" column. "He is worried about her and really loved her, but it started to take a real toll on him. The burden of taking care instead of a partnership where she also takes care."
Spears made headlines in 2007 for what appeared to be a mental breakdown after shaving her head and swinging an umbrella at the paparazzi. In a seemingly endless string of events, Spears was admitted to a hospital for psychiatric observation and her father, Jamie Spears, filed for conservatorship over his troubled daughter. In 2009 Spears and Trawick became an item and Trawick signed on as co-conservator.
The website reports that Trawick’s role of caregiver over companion was a strain on his relationship with the pop star. "It was exhausting for Jason and not the way he wanted to live his life." The source continued, "But this is best for both of them."
Insiders close to the couple told Fox News that Trawick put together a personal and professional support team to help Spears with the transition, prior to the split. The agent also resigned as co-conservator and parted with Spears' agency.
