According to Cinema Blend on Dec. 10, Jack O'Connell has had multiple meetings with J.J. Abrams and the rest of his crew as being an addition to the "Star Wars 7" film and as it turns out things are looking pretty good for the British actor. For a while rumors have been going around about him being associated with the film and now Abrams seems to be considering the actor in some kind of "key" role.
Though it is not known what part O'Connell will be playing, but rumor has it he may be going for the role that actor Matt Smith had almost had acquired. This is likely a male lead role and this was in answer to an open casting seeking those who may qualify for such a role and that producers were seeking.
"Young Man to Play 19 – 23 Years Old. Must be handsome, smart, and Athletic. MUST BE OVER 18. [Will play] THOMAS – Has grown up without a father’s influence. Without the model of being a man, he doesn't have the strongest sense of himself, despite this he is smart, capable, and shows courage when it is needed. He can appreciate the absurdities of life and understands you can’t take life too seriously".
The role of Thomas seems a likely description to the character's personality similar to that of Luke Skyalker from the original "Star Wars: A New Hope" film and with that in mind this could be the lead where the story could build its own arc around the Thomas role with possibly the assistance of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and the host of other celebrities from the original films
O'Connell is pretty much unknown to Americans and for those willing to familiarize themselves with the actor, he can be found in projects such as the TV series "Skins", "Harry Brown" which stars Michael Cain, "Starred Up", and "Eden Lake".
