You thought that since Britain became a democracy she was shed of the abuses of monarchy right? Wrong! Britain's monarchy has a very clever and selfish arrangement with the government. You thought that the monarchy was reduced to a simple figure-head without powers right? Wrong again! Britain's monarchy remains the greedy and selfish family of antiquity with self-preservation being its number one goal. For instance, all the carefully managed publicity that comes from them is designed to stimulate public sentimentality and support so that above all the family may survive and retain its incredible wealth without the threat of public backlash. It is one of the wealthiest families in the entire world.
Royal excess shows in the amount of land the family owns in a land where most people live in small, cramped quarters. One such example is the Duchy of Cornwall. This is the fancy title given to the land holdings of the oldest son of the reigning monarch. In plain English that is over 133,000 acres and growing. The royal family by law acquires any land that is left without an heir. Imagine one family having that privilege in America. The accumulation of a family fortune over generations would be staggering, and it is. You'd think that some politician would have long ago prevented this but there is also a law on the books granting the Duke (the landowner) powers of veto over any such attempts.
This greedy and selfish family has such lands all over Britain and there appears to be no stopping them. There is nobody with the guts to legislate that they give back their vast farm lands through a lottery system to the public. There is nobody with the guts to demand that future monarchs be elected rather than slotted in through genetic privilege.
America long ago abandoned human monarchy because it recognized the abuses of human power. Our cousins in Britain are still suffering from the selfish abuse of royal power. It's high time that English kings and queens lived up to the Gospel which they claim to believe, by selling all that they have and giving to the poor (Matthew 19:16-24). Perhaps then Britain's monarchs will truly enter the kingdom of heaven which they once claimed their empire was.
