Are you looking for a fun and meaningful activity to participate in to get in shape for the summer? Look no further. Consider registering for the annual Brita Climate Ride to promote climate change awareness.
The event, Brita Climate Ride NYC - DC 2011, is to be held May 13 - 17, 2011. The event consists of roughly 100 participants biking 300 miles from New York City to Washington, D.C. over the course of 5 days. According to Caeli Quinn, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Climate Ride, participants "get to enjoy a scenic bicycle ride through four states from New York City to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, but they also get to hear important perspectives from respected thought leaders. All of this contributes to an extraordinary event - action, learning and life-changing experiences - all on a gorgeous bike trip.” The event is meant to inspire people to transition forward to a clean energy future. Not only will you experience beautiful landscapes and listen to speeches from inspiring green leaders, it will be a great networking opportunity to interact with other people who are passionate about bringing an end to climate change.
Each year well-known environmental leaders, such as Colin Beaver (No Impact Man) participate in the event and give speeches on sustainability, renewable energy, and bicycle advocacy. This year, the event will feature green leaders such as award winning journalist Eugene Linden and the founder of 350.org Bill McKibben.
While Brita is the title sponsor, many other notable green companies are backing the Climate Ride as well, such as 350.org, Green America, Rails – to – Trails Conservancy, San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, and Washington Area Bicyclist Association. People living on the West Coast should feel free to sign up for the Climate Ride California 2011, a 320 mile bike ride from Eureka to San Francisco taking place on October 2 – 6, 2011. Registrations for both events are now accessible at www.climateride.org. While the registration fee if $75, participants must earn at least $2,400 to participate in either one of the rides. Thus, fellow climate change activists who would rather not bike several miles across the United States or are unable to take time off from work to participate in the event, can still show their support for Brita Climate Ride by donating money to the bicyclists. Each bicyclist is provided with a personal fundraising web page, a cycling jersey, meals, and FilterForGood Nalgene bottles from Brita. Support teams and mechanics are also close by to make sure the trip is a safe and memorable event for all the participants.
