The Mariners were missing a number of players due to international duty and the reserve goalkeeper, Justin Pasfield was beaten again in the 38th minute as Brisbane Roar took a 2-0 lead thanks to Besarat Berisha who slotted the ball home.

The Mariners really went for it in the second half as they searched for an equalizer bringing on Adam Kwasnik at halftime.

The Mariners really dominated possession but they struggled to get any chances on target, getting only one shot on target in the whole match.

Fitzgerald nearly sealed the match in 77th minute but was denied by some good work from Pasfield blocked the shot just before it crossed the line.

For the Mariners it was their first loss at home in almost a year while it was only Brisbane's third away win of the season, it closed the gap at the top of the table, making the finals more interesting.
