Bringing home a new cat

Deciding to adopt a new pet is an exciting and overwhelming process.  It is important to initially provide a comforting environment with plenty of attention.  It is is best to bring home a new pet when off from work because it is important to take a couple of days and allow new pets to settle into their new home.  A cat carrier is an essential tool and is necessary for the trip home it utilizes a safe traveling environment for pets and prevents any accidents on the way home.  Be sure to place an absorbent cloth at the bottom of the carrier to prevent anything from falling out of the cage.

The first day with your new pet is the most important time.  It is normal for younger animals to feel intense loneliness missing both littermates and the mother.  Initially keep the pet in a small enclosed area such as one bedroom to make animals feel more secure.  Just place the carrier into the room and allow the pet to come out at its convenience and do not rush or pull on new animals.  Though their is a lot of excitement surrounding a new pet it is important to limit holding so that the animal will not feel more overwhelmed then necessary.

When the kitten feels comfortable in one room begin to allow them to explore and visit other areas.  It is important to make the first veterinary visit as soon as available after bringing new pets home.  The veterinarian will do an initial exam and check for any abnormalities.  Tests will also be performed to prevent pets from bringing parasites or illnesses into your home.

Though adopting a new pet is a wonderful experience it is important to remember that it can be a difficult and scary adventure for an animal.  Remember to respect animals and allow them to warm up to new family and friends at their own pace.  Make it a fun and exciting time to enjoy a new family member.
