Bring your pens and paper to Scribal Day

Scribes are very important in the SCA. They are the ones who create the beautiful scrolls given out at either Kingdom or Baronial level. Anyone can become a scribe who wishes to do so; it just takes patience and practice. This Sunday, February 27th, a scribal day will be held.

The scribal day will be for those who are making scrolls for the upcoming Ceilidh event the following weekend to help them finish before the day. This way they can enjoy the event without spending all day in the scribal room. Also it can be a day for those who help by making blanks, come and work on them for future events where scrolls will be needed.

Anyone who wishes to learn the scribal arts is also encouraged to attend. The Flaming Gryphon Baronial Signet, Edlyn de Meadowburne, will be teaching how to do calligraphy and/or illumination. Both are not required to help with scrolls and they can be learned one at a time if the person interested would like to go slowly.

This month’s scribal day will be held at the home of HE Soffya von Kulp at her home in Oxford. Her information is in the Gryphon Pages. The gathering will begin at 1 pm, although no ending time has been listed.
