In perhaps a brilliant casting move, actor Will Smith may be casted in the starring role in Brilliance. According to the Hollywood Reporter on Feb. 20, Smith is in early talks to star in the film adaptation of the Marcus Sakey novel.

Smith is slotted to play a federal agent in the movie, which like the book takes place in a world where people are born with extraordinary abilities and are called “brilliants.” The main attribute of the character is his great hunting gifts, which enlists him in a mission to track down a terrorist, just as brilliant, who intends to start a civil war.

As the talks are just in the early stages, the role seems like the type of role made for Smith who recently announced that he wouldn’t be in an Independence Day sequel. The film will be directed by Julius Onah and produced by Joe Roth. David Koepp wrote the screenplay adaptation for the movie.

In the meantime, Will Smith’s next movie role is a Warner Bros. heist movie titled Focus, also starring Margot Robbie, who he was rumored to be having an affair with back in November. Those rumors were denied.
