Brigitte Bardot will leave France if two sick circus elephants are put down

Brigitte Bardot, the beautiful blonde actress from the 1960's, is threatening to leave France if two sick circus elephants are killed. According to a report on CNN.com on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, Brigitte Bardot plans to request Russian citizenship if the two elephants are put down by the city of Lyon.

CNN reports that the elephants are currently at The Tete d'Or Zoo, established in 1865, and have reportedly been diagnosed with tuberculosis. According to DailyMail.com, the Indian elephants, Baby and Nepal, have been deemed to be a threat to the health of the other animals and visitors to the zoo. They have been on a reprieve of sorts over the Christmas holidays, as The Daily Mail.com explains:

City authorities ordered the elephants to be put down last month but a petition organised(sic) by their original owner, circus master Gilbert Edelstein, led to a temporary reprieve over Christmas.

Brigitte Bardot has made an offer for her foundation to take over the care of the two sick elephants, and she has appealed to French President Francois Hollande. This news followed the public departure of actor Gerard Depardieu who was personally granted Russian citizenship by Vladmir Putin. Depardieu left France in protest of the rising person income tax rates.

Interestingly, according to Daily Mail, Depardieu may be receiving preferential treatment that has spurred his praise of the country:

Meanwhile Russians yesterday mocked Depardieu for claiming the country was a 'great democracy' under Putin, who says he has a 'very friendly personal relationship' with the actor.

One opposition leader challenged him to come to a protest rally where he could face arrest.

But glamorous television host Tina Kandelaki was ready to help him when it comes to registering his address, a duty for all Russians.

'I’m ready to let him register as a resident in my apartment, he can stay as long as he likes,' she said.

It is not known if Bardot has officially requested Russian citizenship yet or not.
