I can always tell people who do a lot of outdoor hiking, running, swimming. It's rather the same thing with landscape photographers . . . it's their skin! Skin that's been exposed to the great outdoors, even while you're traveling, can become coarse, leathery, spotted, blotchy. The problem is, many "brighteners" work by burning the skin layer off so that supposedly when you heal, no more leather. That's a lot of ifs! Fortunately, Amarte brightens gently, with the power of mushrooms. I was happy to hosted to experience it!

Here's what they say about its brightening powers:

The latest trend in skin care is mushrooms. Long known for its healing properties in traditional Chinese and Korean medicine, the magical properties of mushrooms continue; and this time with exceeding skin care benefits. Mushrooms provide a natural overall healthy skin boost, ranging from anti-aging solutions to complexion toning and smoothing. Most importantly, they are touted for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and have even been used for anticancer purposes.

Amarte, the premiere luxury skin care line that combines Korean skin care philosophy with the power of Western dermatology, offers a number of skin care and sun protection products pioneering the use of mushrooms, specifically meshima mushroom, aka Phellinus linteus extract. Called meshima mushroom or black hoof mushroom, Phellinus linteus extract has been shown to have antioxidant effects equivalent to Vitamin C and anti-tumor properties on skin, lung, breast and prostate cancer cells. In Korean traditional medicine, this mushroom is consumed in the form of hot tea, often as an anti-tumor agent. In recent years it has been the subject of significant clinical study because of its reasonably well documented anti-cancer properties. Hispidin, a resveratrol-like compound, has recently been identified as the key antioxidant molecule in this extract. The British Journal of Cancer reported in 2008 that this extract could slow the growth of different types of cancer cells and improve the effects of anticancer drugs.

Other mushroom-rich Amarte products include the Aqua Mist Toner that's incredibly soothing, not burning or irritating at all. It hydrates, so you can re-mist during the day to touch up makeup, refresh. It has a light, pleasant scent.

There's also Amarte Wonder Cream, sized perfectly for a 3-1-1 carry-on travel bag. It's a super-light lotion texture with no grit that gently exfoliates to even skin tone. It leaves a light gleam on the skin, which makes makeup look more youthful and would be great on decolletage.
