A pedestrian was struck and killed while walking on the shoulder of I-285 Sunday morning in Atlanta – and police said the person who struck him was driving under the influence.

Tabatha Williams, 24, was charged with DUI, first degree vehicular homicide and reckless driving, according to Atlanta police. And the victim has been identified, but officials are waiting until his next of kin is notified before releasing his name, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Around 4:45 a.m., officers responded to I-285 southbound, south of Langford Parkway and found the man already dead, police spokesman Sgt. Greg Lyon said.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling south on I-285 when it entered the right emergency lane and struck the pedestrian,” Lyon said.

Williams, the driver of the vehicle, was taken into custody, Lyon said. And a passenger who sustained minor injuries was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment, he said.

Police said they have not yet determined why the pedestrian was on the shoulder of the interstate.

Woman Found Dead After Backing Into Concrete Wall at Church

A 68-year-old woman was found dead Sunday morning after her vehicle crashed into a concrete wall in the parking lot of a Cobb County church. And investigators believe the crash may have happened because of a medical condition.

The incident happened shortly after 10:50 a.m. at the Milford Baptist Church at 1030 Milford Church Road near Marietta, according to Cobb County police.

Investigators said Ms. Katie O. Palmer, of Marietta, was driving a 1992 Mercury Sable when she began backing rapidly through the parking lot of the church before she struck the wall, police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman said. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing her slumped over the wheel prior to the collision, he said.

Ms. Palmer was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Cobb Hospital where she was pronounced deceased, Bowman said. The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office has assumed jurisdiction of the body and will assist investigators in determining the cause of death.

Anyone with information pertaining to the collision is requested to call (770) 499-3987.

Victim and Suspect Identified in Deadly Shooting

Police have identified the 21-year-old man who was found shot to death behind an apartment building in Gwinnett County. They have also identified the man they believe killed him, and now they are trying to catch him.

Joel Tengue was found around noon behind a building at the Astor Place Apartments at 1435 Boggs Road near Duluth, according to Gwinnett County police.

They have issued warrants, charging Nicambreon Flowers, 24, with felony murder and armed robbery, police spokeswoman Michele Pihera said Sunday. Flowers lived at an apartment complex nearby, she said. But she could not confirm where the victim lived.

Investigators did find Tengue’s beige Ford Focus at the scene, Pihera said. Still, so far they have not released any details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Anyone with any information about this crime or the suspect is asked to call Gwinnett County police at (770) 513-5700.
