A 6-year-old boy was ran over and killed after he jumped from the bed of his father’s truck Saturday in Gwinnett County.

So far, police have not released the boy’s name and no charges have been filed in the incident, which is still under investigation, according to the Gwinnett County police.

The incident happened in the 5000 block of Oak Grove Drive near Buford, police spokesman Sgt. Brian Doan said. The 6-year-old was in the back of his father’s pickup truck along with his 11-year-old brother shortly before the boy jumped, he said.

“The father was backing up into the driveway when the child jumped from the bed of the truck,” Sgt. Doan said. “The child was run over by the truck which was towing a trailer.”

The child was transported to Scottish Rite Hospital where he died from his injuries, Doan said. The Gwinnett County accident investigation unit responded to the scene and is handling the investigation, he said.

Man Struck and Killed while Checking Broken-Down Vehicle on I-75

A man was struck and killed Saturday morning while he was attempting to fix his broken-down vehicle on I-75 in Atlanta. And police said so far no charges have been filed in the incident.

Around 6:30 a.m., officers responded to I-75 southbound near Cleveland Avenue after getting a call about a person down, according to Atlanta police. When officers arrived they found the man already dead, police spokesman Officer John Chafee said.

Investigators said the victim's vehicle had apparently broken down on the shoulder of the interstate when the man attempted to fix it. He appeared to have had the hood up and was at the front of the vehicle when a passing box truck struck the victim's vehicle and the victim, Chafee said.

The driver of the box truck, whose name has not been released, remained at the scene, Chafee said. So far, police have not released the name of the victim.
