A 4-year-old boy was ran over and killed by his grandfather in the drive-way of a home in Douglasville Wednesday. And officials said it happened after the boy ran outside to say goodbye.

The Douglas County Coroner has identified the child as Messiah Huiel.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. at the home on Thompson Street, according to the city of Douglasville police.

Officials said the boy ran out of the house to say goodbye to his grandfather in the rain, but the man did not see him.

The grandfather was backing out of the driveway when Messiah approached the SUV on the passenger side. The child then got in front of the vehicle and his grandfather, who did not see the boy standing there, ran over him, police spokesman Capt. Darren Shaw said.

“It was a simple, horrible accident,” Shaw said.

Messiah was transported to WellStar Douglas Hospital where he died at 8:21 p.m., Coroner Randy Daniel said.

The boy’s body has been turned over the GBI crime lab for an autopsy. But police said no charges will be filed in the incident.

Three-Vehicle Collision Shuts Down Highway

A school bus and two pickup trucks collided Thursday, injuring one and shutting down Ga. 20 in Henry County.

Nine children were on the bus, but none of them were injured, according to Henry County police. But the driver of one of pick-up trucks had to be transported to a local hospital by air ambulance, police spokesman Sgt. Joey Smith said.

So far, police have not released the man’s name and his condition was not immediately known.

The collision happened near the intersection of East Lake Road and Ga. 20.

Police and traffic investigators are still on the scene trying to determine what caused the wreck. Police have not released any additional details on exactly what happened.
