A 9-month-old baby shot to death and three women injured during a home invasion in Stone Mountain late Saturday night.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. at a home on To Lani Farm Road, according to DeKalb County police.
Investigators said three or four masked men kicked in the door of the home and shot everyone inside, including the baby, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The home was targeted, police said. But so far they have not released a motive for the crime. They also have not released the identity of deceased infant.
“All the victims were transported to area hospitals and we received information that the infant has since died of the gunshot injuries,” DeKalb County Interim Police Chief Jim Conroy told Channel 2 Action News.
The conditions of the women were not immediately known early Sunday.
A news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the police department’s headquarters, police spokesman Capt. Steven Fore said.
Man Stabbed at Shell Station in Athens
A man was stabbed during an argument at a gas station Saturday night in Athens and police on Sunday were still searching for the suspect.
The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. at the Shell station at 1790 Commerce Road, according to Athens-Clarke County police.
Officers arrived at the scene to find the victim, Oscar Zarco, with a stab wound to his lower right side in the stomach area, police spokesman Lt. Willie Brinkley said. Zarco was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
Zarco told police he and the suspect, whom he could only identify as “Ismael” had an argument at the gas station that ended with Zarco being stabbed, Brinkley said. Zarco did not say what the argument was about.
The suspect left the scene before officers arrived.
Man Slashed During Fight at Walmart
A fight at a Walmart in Athens ended with one man being cut on the back of the neck and arm. So far, no one has been arrested in the incident, but police said several people were involved.
The incident happened around 8:20 p.m. inside the Walmart at 4375 Lexington Road, according to Athens-Clarke County police.
Investigators said a group of people had been fighting near the produce section, Lt. Willie Brinkley said. They found one victim, Joshua Smith, who had been cut on the back of the neck and upper arm with a box cutter type razor, Brinkley said.
The wounds were minor and paramedics treated him at the scene without transporting him to the hospital, Brinkley said. There was no report of anyone else being injured.
“There were several people involved in this altercation that resulted in this assault,” Brinkley said.
