Bridges TV, Muslim American channel, to be dropped by Verizon

Verizon made the announcement a few days ago, citing low viewership, as the reason for pulling the plug on the channel. The channel will be dropped March 15, 2012. The channel was founded by Muzzamil "Mo" Hassan and his wife Aasiya and was stationed in Amherst NY just outside of Buffalo as a voice for Muslim Americans and to combat negative images and stereotypes about Muslims and Islam. The station continued on the air after Hassan was convicted of the stabbing and decapitation murder of his wife and was sent to prison for 25 years to life, but the station has been struggling.

The channel will be available through steaming online and some local carriers, but without a major carrier such as Verizon, the management at Bridges TV say that it will be far more difficult to maintain viewership and a market share, and advertising revenue, and may have to ultimately shut down altogether.
