The third book in the series has a Bridget Jones twist that has fans outraged at what author Helen Fielding did to a beloved character. According to ABC News on Sept. 30, "Mad About that Boy" sees the beloved character of Mr. Darcy dead and Bridget Jones is now a widow.
One of the most popular characters in both the first two books and the movies was Mr. Darcy, played by Colin Firth in the films. It was brilliant casting because Firth also played Mr. Darcy in the "Pride and Prejudice" BBC television film, a character on whom his Bridget Jones character was based.
Over a decade ago. Bridget Jones finally found love with Mr. Darcy and settled down to live happily ever after. This third book in the series shatters those dreams, and that perfect ending for the one-time spinster.
An excerpt from the book hit on Sunday and had Jones lamenting about her husband dying, leaving her a widow and single-mother. This spoiler of the Bridget Jones twist has, if nothing else, jump started the publicity for the book, which hits stores in two weeks.
Fielding said that Jones is now in her '50s with two children - Mabel and Billy. He is trying not to lose her kids while using Twitter to keep up with her fans. There is also a new romance in the book with a 30-something man that she met on Twitter.
