Bridge blown up: Texas bridge gets blown up, clears way for construction (Video)

A bridge blown up in Marble Falls, TX, has drawn national attention. The bridge got blown up in order to clear the way for new construction, but a slow motion video which hit the internet has also drawn a lot of interest. According to a report from CBS on Tuesday (March 19), the bridge depicted in the video is the US 281 bridge in Marble Falls.

The new bridge is expected to be in place by 2014 according to Texas officials and the argument was made that by blowing up the old one, it would actually cut down on the construction time and costs. It was estimated by the Texas Department of Transportation that three months could be shaved off the expected completion date, likely making it much easier for local residents of Marble Falls to deal without having the lake crossing in place.

There were hundreds of people on the shores of Lake Marble Falls to see the bridge get blown up this past weekend, leading to quite a few videos of the event making it online. Though the event went pretty quickly, watching it in slow motion certainly gives a better sense of what took place.
