Brides from throughout Northeast Ohio made their way to Warrensville Heights Friday morning for the annual Running of the Brides event at Filene’s Basement.

The world Famous Bridal event began in 1947. It is the rare occasion when Filene’s Basement shoppers can find designer bridal gowns typically retailed in the thousands discounted to $249-699.

The Warrensville Heights store in the newly developed Harvard Avenue/Richmond Road Plaza stocked over 1500 dresses. Bridal entourages of mothers, bridesmaids, best friends along with a groom or two camped out in the wee hours just to be the first in line. It was every bride for themselves once the doors of the store opened. Bridal teams wearing matching shirts and outfits grabbed anything that remotely looked like a bridal dress. Forty-Five minutes into the sale, nothing remained on the bridal racks.

The department store was all abuzz with brides trying on gowns in every square inch of the store. The chaotic scene could be summed up in a t-shirt sold by the front registers stating “I survived.”

Ultimately, some lucky Brides did find their dream gown for their big day. Those who did not will have to wait another year for the next bridal sale.
