A well planned wedding pays attention to every detail and the size of the bridal party is a crucial decision because it affects so many aspects of the wedding. It affects the length of the processional, the style of the photo shoots, the seating arrangement for the reception, the type of transportation options available, the stress levels during the planning stage, and the overall look and feel of the wedding. In a recent nationwide poll taken by engaged and recently married women, over 90% voted that the most reasonable number of bridesmaids should range between three to six, with the majority of votes going to four as the ideal number. Of course these numbers depend on other factors such as the size of the wedding and the ratio of bridesmaids to groomsmen. The total number of people in the bridal party should be semi-proportionate to the size of the wedding; thus larger weddings can get away with having a few extra people in their bridal party. Cultural background can also impact the numbers, in certain social circles “the more the merrier” seems to be the motto for bridal parties. Although there are different opinions on the matter, the general consensus is that anything more than 8 bridesmaids is considered a large bridal party and these come with certain complications and can sometimes take away from the elegance of the wedding.
