'Bridesmaids' becomes the highest grossing VOD, proves women are funny

Bridesmaids is the highest-grossing R-rated female comedy of all time; grossing over $288 million worldwide, and over $100 million in Blu-ray and DVD sales. This year, the film has been making a run of it in the award circuit picking up nominations for Golden Globes®, Screen Actor’s Guild Awards®, and the recently announced, Oscars®.  If you think that is enough, the Bridesmaids machine has not stopped there.  The film can now add highest grossing VOD (Video On Demand) ever to its growing list of accolades.  Bridesmaids has amassed over “$40 million domestically from a combination of Internet video on demand (iVOD), pay-per-view, hotel viewings and electronic sell through (EST) transactions,” according to HollywoodReporter.com.

If the success of Bridesmaids tells us anything, it is that you don’t have to be male to be R-rated and funny, you don’t have to be serious to be noticed, and Jerry Lewis doesn’t know what he’s talking about.  Or in the words of Tina Fey:

"...whenever someone says to me, 'Jerry Lewis says women aren't funny,' or 'Christopher Hitchens says women aren't funny,' or 'Rick Fenderman says women aren't funny... Do you have anything to say to that?'

Yes. We don't (expletive) care if you like it.

I don't say it out loud, of course, because Jerry Lewis is a great philanthropist, Hitchens is very sick, and the third guy I made up.

… Do your thing and don't care if they like it.”
