What is it?
The Bridal Veil Falls State Scenic Viewpoint sits quietly on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge. Located just 15 miles east of Troutdale, the park features restrooms, picnic tables, open grassy areas, and two separate trails. The Overlook Trail loop is a wheelchair accessible interpretive trail that leads visitors to several stunning Gorge views, including Washington's Cape Horn directly across the river. The lower non-wheelchair accessible trail drops .3 mile down to the 120 foot tall Bridal Veil Falls.
Why Visit?
Sitting just off the Historic Columbia River Highway, the Bridal Veil Falls area isn't exactly hidden from site. However, most travelers are on their way to the larger falls that can be seen directly from the highway. That's not to say that Bridal Veil doesn't get visitors, it most certainly does. But as most of the throngs head towards Multnomah Falls, there is the often overlooked beauty, peace, and interpretive history of Bridal Veil Falls waiting to be enjoyed.
The upper trail provides great views and sign boards that point out the area's unique native plant life. There are also prime picnic spots, tables, and benches along the way. The lower trail ends at the underrated two-tier Bridal Veil Falls. At 120 feet, these falls thunder impressively at anytime of year.
Get there:
Take I-84 east to Bridal Veil Exit 28. Follow the access road for half a mile to the Historic Columbia River Highway. Turn right and proceed one mile to the Bridal Veil Falls State Park and its large parking area on the right.
