Texans cornerback Brice McCain will earn an extra $693,000 in base pay in 2012 according to Brian McIntyre, editor of Mac's Football Blog and staff writer for Football Outsiders.
McCain earned the extra salary by achieving playing-time triggers specified in his contract.
While McIntyre didn't specify the incentive that triggered the raise, it's likely something similar to Duane Brown who recently received a $1.3 million base salary increase for playing over 80 percent of the Texans offensive plays over three seasons.
McCain's base pay is now $1.308 million this season which is great news for McCain but not as good for the Texans who have $2 million less in salary cap room because of Brown's and McCain's pay raises.
McCain is entering the final year of his four year rookie contract that he signed in 2009.
Dorrell new QB coach
Mark Berman of myfoxhouston.com reported earlier today that the Texans reached agreement with Karl Dorrell to become the team's new quarterbacks coach replacing Greg Knapp.
This was the second time that Gary Kubiak has made a run at Dorrell. Two years ago the Texans were denied permission to talk to Dorrell and Bill Musgrave before the Texans hired Knapp.
