Briana Grant earns female athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com

When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.

2013/2014 winter season- Week 10-February 3rd- February 9th

Female

Briana Grant- Searsport- basketball- Recorded 33 points, 17 rebounds, 10 assists, and five steals in 77-53 victory over Bangor Christian on senior night at Searsport.

Grant has led the Vikings to a 14-4 record including 9-0 at home, and a number three seed in the class D tournament.

Grant has committed to attend college and play basketball at Central Maine Community College (CMCC).

Grant is the first student/athlete from Searsport high school to earn athlete of the week honors.

Runner up

Hannah Graham- Presque Isle- basketball- Recorded 11 points, seven assists, four steals and five rebounds in a 53-35 win at John Bapst. She had 26 points 8 assists and 8 rebounds along with 5 steals at the 76-43win at Caribou to lead Presque Isle to a 62 game win streak and an 18-0 #1 seed regular season.

Other nominations

Kali Alley- Jonesport-Beals- basketball- Recorded eight points, 11 rebounds, and six steals in 45-16 loss to Deer Isle-Stonington. Recorded 20 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists in 63-46 loss to Machias. In a game last week against Highview Christian Alley recorded 17 points, 21 rebounds, seven assists, and six steals.

Anna Ramsay- Narraguagus- basketball- Recorded 18 points (including 3 three pointers) and 12 rebounds in 44-39 loss to Calais. Had 21 points (7-7 FT Line) and 12 rebounds in 51-34 win over PCHS.

Abbie Melvin- Dexter- basketball- Recorded 14 points, 18 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in 56-41 win over Stearns.

Megan Peach- Dexter- basketball- Recorded 16 points, 17 rebounds, and two steals in 56-41 victory over Stearns.

Krystal Kingsbury- Presque Isle- basketball- Had 16 points (12 in the second half), seven rebounds and three steals as the Wildcats got their 61st consecutive win in the 54-35 win at John Bapst. The Junior recorded 21 points, eight rebounds, five steals, and three assists in 76-41 victory over Caribou. Presque Isle finished the regular season 18-0 and have now won 62 straight games.

Sami Ireland- PVHS- basketball- Scored 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in 42-36 win over PCHS. Also scored 22 points in 53-49 victory over Dexter.

Whitney McNamee- Fort Fairfield- basketball- Scored 19 points in 59-50 win over Van Buren. Scored 12 points in 62-38 victory over Central Aroostook.

Parise Rossignol- Van Buren- basketball- Scored 32 points in 59-50 loss to Fort Fairfield.
