Comedian Brian Regan performed at the Stranahan Theater last night, and he brought something the audience needed: laughter.
After four days of brutal winter weather, most Toledoans needed a chance to leave home and laugh at life, and Regan gave the audience the antidote to cabin fever. He even got the audience laughing at the weather conditions. His comment “Why do you people live here? You know it is warmer down south!” brought roars of laughter and applause.
Regan, who grew up in Florida, knows how cold Ohio can get. He attended college in Tiffin, Ohio at Heidelberg College. “They now have graduated to Heidelberg University,” he told the audience Thursday night. In 1980, he quit college to go into comedy, and although he did receive a college degree later in 1997, Regan has become a veteran comic performing for over three decades now.
His comedy reaches a vast audience. He uses little profanity in his comedy routines, and some critics have compared him to Bill Cosby and Jerry Seinfeld. He has appeared with Seinfeld on “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee” (see video above), and four years ago, Regan broke a record held by Seinfeld. Regan’s most recent comedy album, “All By Myself” was recorded in March 2010 during five sold-out shows at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City. The previous record for sold-out shows was four shows set by Seinfeld in 2005.
Regan constantly tours, and he started this year’s tour in Toledo. He has 34 more stops planned so far. His next two performances are in Pennsylvania, but he will be back in the Toledo area this spring. He will perform in Cleveland, OH and Kalamazoo, MI this May. Check Regan’s website for more tour information or information on obtaining “All By Myself” Regan’s latest album.
