Brian McBride announces he'll retire at end of 2010 season

September 3, Chicago Fire striker Brian McBride, 38, announced that he'll retire from professional soccer at the end of the 2010 season. McBride joined the Fire in 2008 after playing four seasons with Fulham, where he scored 40 goals, served as the captain 2007-8 and was voted Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006. He scored 30 goals in 96 appearances for the U.S. Men's National Team and appeared in the 1998, 2002, and 2006 World Cups, and featured in the 2008 Olympics. McBride began his career with the Columbus in 1996, the inaugural season of MLS, and scored 62 goals in 161 appearances for the Crew. McBride scored four goals for the Fire so far this season and a total of 17 in his three seasons with the team.
