While Christopher is honored to have this opportunity, he knows it has not come without a lot of work.
Christopher started singing in high school and honed his skills. Shortly after high school, he decided to pursue a professional career. He formed a group called Verse 20 in reference to the biblical verse I John 4:20 directing us to love our brother. The group performed an array of inspirational songs. But eventually they did not withstand the trend towards solo artists.
In 2009, Christopher decided to stop resisting the call on his life and started a solo career.
As an independent artist, Christopher has made tremendous strides. He has released one album and several singles. He prefers giving his devoted fans singles.
"It keeps it fresh and my audience wanting more", he says. Christopher avoids the conventional marketing strategies and so far it is paying off.
Christopher has performed in many venues in the United States and abroad. He enjoyed a three month performance stint in Japan. He noted that the Japanese were very receptive to his music and he had them dancing in the aisles! After returning to the states, he worked on a collaboration with Micah Chevalier. Their tantalizing single called "In The Groove" was so good that it was considered for a Grammy.
Christopher 's journey garnered him the chance to host for major evens such as the Miss Black America pageant as well as various hot spots in DC, New York and more. He has created performance events for other independent artist including his latest one called "The Blend" at The Elroy in Washington DC. If all that wasn't enough, he has also hosted his own online radio show.
After five years of putting in the work, one of Christopher's career changing moment will happen when he performs at Blues Alley on January 7. When asked what the patrons can expect for his shows, he states,
"It will be an energetic and dynamic show."
With a full band and original content as only he knows how to do it, Christopher promises it will be a show to remember.
The shows will be at 8pm and 10pm but the memory will last a lifetime! Bring a friend and support our DC independent artist Brian Christopher.
