Last week, Philadelphia Union midfielder Brian Carroll was named the captain for the 2013 season. Last season, he was the captain for a few games while Carlos Valdes was playing for the Colombian National Team.
Carroll is the right choice for captaincy. He is a great leader on and off the field and has the respect inside the locker room from his teammates and from the front office. This move should also add to the Union’s success in 2013.
Forward Jack McInerney thinks Carroll is the right guy to be the Union’s next captain and will be a good example for the young guys on the Union..
“He is the right guy for the position and a leader off and on the field. Carroll has been in the league awhile, and will be able to teach the young guys on our team.”
The Union is a relatively young squad with a group of veterans on the team like Carroll. Carroll will be able to help the youngsters of the team adjust especially those making the transition to MLS play. Sheanon Williams echoed McInerney’s thoughts on Carroll being the next captain.
“He is a great leader and will continue to be one. It is well-deserved for Carroll and happy for him. The team really trusts him on the field and in the locker room.”
Overall it should be great to watch Carroll lead the Union during the 2013 season and hopefully help guide them to success and a playoff spot by season’s end.
