Brewing your own beer (part two)

Last week we talked about some problems that you might have when you brew your beer. This week we will talk about some things you might want to experiment with, when you brew your own beer at home. The first thing that you might want to try is coffee beer. Before you go and attempt this make sure that you like coffee beer. If you go ahead and attempt this then here are some tips to help you make a good batch.

  •  Don't boil or heat the coffee
  •  Use cold brewed coffee or espresso only
  •  Make sure you know how much coffee flavor that you want
  •  Go easy on the hops ( coffee will make your beer more bitter)
  •  If you want your beer to be a little sweeter you can add some molasses

A second thing that you might want to try is changing up the type of hops that you brew your beer with. Many people become too comfortable with the hops that they use and they do not know the wide variety of hops that are out in the beer world. Some of the types that I would suggest are:

  1.  Belgian Saaz
  2.  New Zealand Hallertaur
  3.  Whitbread

The final thing that I would suggest that you try when you brew your own beer is that you try different types of water with you beer, the flavor of the type of water that you use can greatly change the flavor profile of your beer. Try infusing your water with a fruit or spice before you brew your beer and see how it changes your beer for the better.
