Brewery open houses in Bellingham and across Washington this Saturday, Feb. 23 (Photos)

Breweries all over Washington state will be opening their doors to the public this Saturday, Feb. 23 (2013), for the third annual Washington Beer Open House, and all three Bellingham breweries will be participating.

Chuckanut Brewery (601 W. Holly St.), Boundary Bay Brewery (1107 Railroad Ave.) and Kulshan Brewery (2238 James St.) have come together to help visitors get to all three breweries between noon and 5 p.m. with a free shuttle.

The first Baker Bus shuttle will leave Boundary Bay at noon to go to Kulshan. The shuttle will leave Kulshan at 20 after the hour to go to Chuckanut Brewery. The shuttle will then leave Chuckanut at 20 to the hour to head back to Boundary Bay. (Every 20 minutes the bus will leave a different brewery – on the hour from Boundary Bay, 20 after the hour from Kulshan, and 40 after the hour from Chuckanut – up until 5 p.m.)

Chuckanut Brewery we will be offering brief tours at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., with brewers on hand before and after the tours to answer any questions about beer, brewing or the Chuckanut Brewery. Chuckanut’s Kitchen will be serving food after 11:30 a.m.

Boundary Bay Brewery will be open for tours and tastings between noon and 5 p.m. As a bonus, the brewery’s once-per-year release of Imperial IPA will be available for purchase in 22-ounce bottles.

Kulshan Brewery will be open as well, and you’ll have an opportunity to see its brand-new brewhouse, which is currently being installed. The new 15-barrel system will double the brewery’s brewing capacity.
