Ladies and gentlemen, start your livers. Another beer festival is just around the corner in Bellingham, Wash.
Brewers by the Bay will feature a wide variety of craft beers -- mostly from Northwest breweries -- as well as some great food and live music. More than 55 beers from 40 breweries are expected to make an appearance this year.
Presented and sponsored by Bellingham Bay Rotary, proceeds from this event will benefit the Whatcom Hospice House.
A $25 entrance fee includes five beer tokens, a commemorative tasting glass, free live music and free barbecue. Tickets can be purchased at various outlets in Bellingham, including Boundary Bay Brewery, Applied Digital Imaging, Natural Way Chiropractic, Birch Bay Equipment Rentals & Sales, Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen, and the Green Frog Acoustic Tavern.
Whatcom Hospice serves more than 100 patients every day in Whatcom County. Hospice professionals work with both patients and their loved ones to create individualized plans of care that enable patients to live their final days comfortably and pain free, with dignity, purpose and peace.
Previously, hospice services could only be offered to a patient in his or her home, a hospital or a long-term care center. For a variety of reasons, these options are not always the most desirable or appropriate for either the patient or the caregiver.
Fortunately, there is now another option available: Whatcom Hospice House. Hospice House is located in the Happy Valley neighborhood of Bellingham. It is staffed by Whatcom Hospice, a department of PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center. Groundbreaking occurred on Sept. 13, 2009, and construction is now complete. The first patients were accepted on Sept. 16, 2010.
The total cost of the project is approximately $5.9 million. While the majority of the funding for the Hospice House has already been raised through individual and corporate contributions, grants and in-kind services, the organization still needs about $1 million to complete the capital campaign.
Take advantage of this opportunity to help raise funds for this great cause while tasting some awesome craft beer at the same time. It’s a win-win situation.
