Brett Michaels has officially filed a lawsuit against CBS, and the producers of the 2009 Tony Awards broadcast in which Mr. Michaels was hurt by a set piece. The lawsuit contends that the awards garnered a great deal of attention from the blunder which created irreparable damage to Mr. Michaels' reputation while bolstering the Tony Awards awareness. (It doesn't help that the official Tony Awards response at the time was that Brett Michaels "missed his mark" and was therefore responsible for the blunder.) The video of Mr. Michael's mishap was aired on several news stations and even became one of the most watched videos of YouTube in the week following.
Brett Michaels, who achieved stardom as the lead singer of the rock band Poison, performed as part of a larger homage to the hit Broadway show Rock of Ages which features hit songs from metal and hair bands of the 80s and was then nominated for a number of Tonys including Best Musical. (Rock of Ages is currently on schedule for a movie treatment to be released in summer 2012.)
Following the incident at the Tony Awards, Brett Michaels suffered a series of health setbacks including a subarachnoid hemorrage which the suit alleges was a result of the head trauma suffered at the awards show.
