Brett Favre and the Chicago Bears have been doing an unofficial dance in the media for the last few days. If the Bears call, Favre will listen, but the Bears have no intention of calling, so how did this all come to be? Wishful thinking on Brett Favre fans no doubt had a hand in this little piece of fantasy football. According to USA Today, even if Favre shows some interest, the Bears won’t be luring him out of retirement.
ESPN’s Ed Werder consulted with a Bear’s source and was told the team has no intention of making a run for the retired 42 year-old quarterback. It appears that Brett Favre is no longer in their sights these days.
With “no Favre watch in Chicago,” he can continue with his hunting and enjoying retirement while the Bears struggle with their potential season ending loss of their QB Jay Cutler, who’s out due to thumb surgery. The back-up replacement for Cutler, Caleb Hanie, has also demonstrated a real struggle for the game.
The Bears at 7-5 are in the middle of the NFC wild card race and they’re not looking to Favre or even Donovan McNabb, who recently became a free agent after the Vikings cut him loose.
