Bret McKenzie's 'Man or Muppet' wins Oscar for Best Original Song

Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords won the Oscar for Best Original Song for "Man or Muppets" from "The Muppets" at the 84th Academy Awards on February 26.  McKenzie beat out "Real in Rio" from the animated film "Rio," with music by Sergio Mendes and Carlinhos Brown and lyrics by Siedah Garrett. Only two songs were nominated this year in the category.

McKenzie said during his acceptance speech that he grew up watching 'The Muppets' on TV in New Zealand and never dreamed that he would get to work with them.  He was starstruck when he met Kermit the Frog. But when you get to know him, "he's just a normal frog, and like many stars here, he's alot shorter in real life."

He also thanked Jim Henson and his team for creating the "magical world" of the Muppets. "It's a true honor to work in the shadows of such legends".
