Bret Hart was recently a guest on Wrestle Talk TV. During the piece, Hart discussed John Cena, CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. The biggest tidbit from the piece was Hart’s thoughts on Triple H, where he states Hunter’s match with The Undertaker at Wrestle Mania 28 was only a 3 or 4 out of 10 and states that Hunter really never had a ‘great’ match.
I respect Hart and think he’s one of the best all-around talents of the modern era. With that said, he comes off as a bit bitter when talking about Triple H. Hunter was a great heel, was always really good on the mic and very good in the ring, Granted, he was never the in-ring worker that Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle or Hart were but he a number of great matches. His bouts vs. Michaels and Chris Benoit (Wrestle Mania 20 and Backlash 2004), vs. Michaels (Summer Slam 2002 and the Three Stages of Hell in Dec. of 2002), Ladder match vs. The Rock (Summer Slam 1998), vs. Mick Foley (Jan. and Feb. of 200) and all three Mania matches vs. Taker just to name a few were great in my eyes.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but The Hitman seems to be off his rocker on this one. I think most fans were rank Hunter in their top ten or 15 all around performers of the past 20 or 30 years.
