Brenton Skating Plaza to host Music Under the Canopy festival series

Brenton Skating Plaza closed for the ice skating season after the March 9 skating session. However, the only outdoor skating plaza in Des Moines is not just going to sit inactive until next winter. The plaza began renovations recently to add a large canopy to cover the skating rink to allow for the plaza to be used for ceremonies, social events, festivals, shows, and concerts during the warm months.

Music Under the Canopy will kick off in June at Brenton Skating Plaza.

Brenton Skating Plaza is not waiting around either. Management has already scheduled three new music festivals for this summer. Music Under the Canopy will bring Des Moines a 3-day Americana Music Festival on June 20 - 22, a Singer/Songwriter Festival on July 11 - 13, and a Jazz Festival on August 1 - 3. The canopy will allow for the events to be held out of the elements, but it will still allow for panoramic views of Downtown Des Moines.

Management officially announced the lineup for the Americana Music Festival last week. The 3-day event will be headlined by The Jayhawks (featured video) on Friday, John Hiatt on Saturday, and Jason Isbell on Sunday. Here is the complete schedule:
