The Kansas City Golf Association State Line Amateur Tour Championship continued on Saturday Oct. 5 at Stone Canyon Golf Course in Blue Springs, Mo. Saturday’s event concluded the 36-hole championship tournament.
Brent Mertz and Ben Kimminau were tied for first place in the Open Division gross scoring at the end of the 18-hole regulation play on Saturday with three over par scores of 147. On the first play-off hole Mertz was able to sink a 15 foot putt to continue the match. Kimminau missed the green on the second hole and Mertz was able to two putt for par to take the trophy from last year’s champion Kimminau. One stroke back of the two was Jason Hull for third place and one shot back of him was Park Ulrich for fourth. Fifth place went to John Lovell at five over par 153.
In the Open Division net scoring Hull moved to first place with an adjusted score of 148. Kimminau remained in second but tied with Mertz at 149. Charlie Schorgl came in fourth at 153 and fifth place was awarded to Joseph Lambert at 155.
In the Players Division gross scoring Ritch Nigh held onto his overnight lead to finish in first place with an eight over par round on Saturday and a total score of 153 for the championship. Mat Barberich shot a four over par 76 for a combined score of 12 over par 156 for second place. Third place went to Michael Buckhouse with a total of 159. Fourth place resulted in a tie between Tom Pickert and Wes Lowe with total scores of 162.
Jesse Montgomery took first place honors in the Player Division net scoring with an adjusted score of four under par 140. Lowe came in second at 146 and Mike Naegele finished third at 148. Fourth place went to Nathan Wegner with an adjusted score of 150. Fifth place resulted in a tie between Barberich and Pickert.
Steve Groom Shot a two under par round on Saturday to finish at three under par 141 for the tournament and finishing first in the Senior Division gross scoring. Groom made three birdies and a bogey on his way to victory. Second place finisher Greg Loteckie shot a five over par round and finished with a combined score of 153. Third place went to Pete Robbins with a score of 165 and David Hamilton finished in fourth at 166. John Samples and Rob Gleissner withdrew from the championship and did not complete play on Saturday.
The Senior Division net scoring finished with Groom remaining in the number one spot with an adjusted score of 151. Loteckie came in second two shots back while Robbins remained in third and Hamilton finished at fourth with a 166.
Don Kuehn had shot the lowest round of the championship at two under par on Friday, to be the overnight leader in the Legends Division gross scoring. Saturday he shot a three over par 75 to hold onto the first place finish. Jim Lodes came in second with a combined score of 150, while Ron Brewer was five shots back to finish in third. Fourth place honors went to Gary Noble at 159 and Jack Garvin finished in fifth at 164.
Net scoring in the Legends Division was won by Lodes with an adjusted score of six under par 138. Kuehn dropped to a tie with John E. Pawsat at one over par 145. Fourth place resulted in a tie between Noble and Brewer at 147.
