The St. Louis Blues announced Monday that they have signed forward Brenden Morrow to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million.
Prior to being shipped to the Pittsburgh Penguins at last season’s trade deadline, Morrow had spent his entire 13-year career with the Dallas Stars, serving as captain for the last several years.. He now joins a team that plays in the same division as the Stars. He is also reunited in St. Louis with former Stars coach Ken Hitchcock and general manager Doug Armstrong.
"I think he just makes us a better team," said Armstrong. "He's a competitive player, he's played in the Stanley Cup Finals, the Stanley Cup Semifinals, last year went to Pittsburgh at the trade deadline and played very well there. He hurt his knee, his knee cap quite severely, and played through it. That's the type of player we want, someone that plays through injuries, has no excuses, and he's a player that's going to help our grit quota and we're going to be a tougher team to play with him in the lineup."
Drafted 25th overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft; Morrow has 542 points in 850 career games. He has also accumulated 1,222 penalty minutes. Morrow won a gold medal playing for Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
