Richard Childress Racing announced on Friday morning that Brendan Gaughan will be driving a No. 62 Chevrolet full-time for the organization in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2014. Gaughan currently drives the No. 62 for RCR in the Camping World Truck Series. He and his No. 62 truck team will be making the move to the Nationwide circuit next year. Shane Wilson will serve as crew chief and the team will start the 2014 season with the 2013 owner points earned by the No. 33 team.
"We have greatly enjoyed our relationship with Richard Childress Racing and jumped at the opportunity to continue this partnership," CEO of team sponsor South Point, Ryan Growney said. "With some of the top drivers, crews and management in the sport, Richard Childress Racing is a perfect representative for the South Point brand on the race track."
Gaughan's Truck Series teammate at RCR, Ty Dillon, will also be making the move to Nationwide Series competition. They'll be joining current Nationwide Series driver for RCR, Brian Scott, next year for a three-car Nationwide effort for the organization. Another Nationwide Series driver for Richard Childress Racing, Austin Dillon, will be making the move to the Sprint Cup Series next year.
"This gives us a very competitive Nationwide Series lineup for next year, and I look forward to winning races with all three of our drivers," car owner Richard Childress said.
Gaughan has competed in three Nationwide races, so far, this season. In all, he has 84-career Nationwide starts, including two-straight full-time seasons in 2009 and 2010. He has nine top-five and 22 top-10 race finishes at the Nationwide level.
