Brek Shea transfer saga alert! Shea headed to Europe

Brek Shea may have played his last game in an FC Dallas jersey. When the team took to the practice field for their second training session of the day Monday afternoon, FC Dallas’s star winger was nowhere to be found. Then, Monday evening, the team released this cryptic three-sentence message, saying that Shea has departed for Europe to pursue interest from clubs “there.”

Europe is a pretty darn big place, so it’s unclear where “there” is, but recent rumors have connected Shea with Stoke City. However, those rumors were seemingly quashed over questions regarding Shea’s recovery from recent foot surgery. In November, Shea had the sesamoid bone removed from his right foot in order to relieve the "turf toe" injury which nagged at him all last season.

But Shea looked good Friday night in his first real on-field action since the surgery, and looked strong again at the Monday morning training session, showing no signs of injury or any lingering recovery issues. In fact, he used the particular toe in question to poke a sharp right-footed shot on goal in the early session that forced a nice diving save from the goalkeeper.

Is Shea gone for good? Perhaps, but it looks like that question may not be answered until the EPL transfer window closes on Jan 31. Hopefully by then we might even know where “there” is.

(UPDATE: Ives Galarcep of Soccer By Ives has reported that the transfer destination is indeed Stoke City.)
