Breeding dogs saved from puppy mill

Alabama - Breeding dogs who were considered nothing more than a commodity just days ago have a new lease on life today.

According to Jo-Ellyn Vincent, President of Boston Terrier Rescue of Alabama, the rescue mission started after she received an email alerting her to an auction in Missouri which was being held by a breeder who was shutting down.

All dogs from this breeder would either be auctioned off...or killed.

Vincent embarked on a life-saving mission. Her goal, to save as many dogs as she could from a terrible fate.

In order to successfully complete her mission, Vincent had much in the way of preparation to do, and not much time to do it.

After securing a volunteer, renting a van, loading up with crates, blankets, food, towels and medical supplies, she set out on her 1200 mile round trip journey which would culminate in her attending the auction incognito as it could not be known that she was a dog rescuer.

The rescue was able to purchase 25 dogs from the operation - 23 Boston Terriers and 2 French Bulldogs.

Twenty-five lives who will not have a future which includes living in a cage and being repeatedly bred.

Twenty-five lives who will be considered  much more than merely a means to an end.

Twenty-five lives who will know what it means to be loved and cared for.

The rescue's mission was costly and those costs will only continue to climb as the veterinary expenses grow.

Right now, there are six puppies who are being boarded at a vet clinic because they have contracted the most horrific puppy disease around - Parvo.

The remaining dogs all need to be altered, vaccinated, de-wormed, started on heartworm medication and some need surgery to repair injuries from their previous life in a cage.

Needless to say, providing these dogs with the opportunity to have a life has come at a great cost.

The rescue is hopeful that word of this amazing mission will spread and others will see that these lives were worth saving - despite the costs involved.
