Lately, there have been many people asking how they can decrease their anxiety, keep from getting so angry, or stressing out on exams and I simply say, "breath".
Most everyone laughs because we breathe everyday. It's a natural reaction but do we really breath? I mean breath deep.
One of the first thing to learn is how to be aware of your breath. Simply, sit up and comfortably don't worry if you can't sit in the lotus position, just be comfortable and alert.
You may choose to listen to music, a guided breathing meditation, or nothing at all. Just find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed by anyone or any pets and sit comfortably.
Begin by bringing your attention to your body, blocking out the noises around you, and begin to focus on your breathing.
Take a deep breath, one that fills your entire lungs and stomach. Feel how the breath moves in and out. Once you can feel it begin to concentrate on your breath.
If you need to think, inhale, exhale, etc but just keep breathing deep. Take note of what you are thinking, feeling, etc each time that you take a breath.
After practicing this for about 5 minutes each day and then increasing the time that you are meditating you will begin to notice what your mind will bring to you and learn to focus your breathing to help decrease the anxiety.
For example, if you are about to take an exam and notice that the words are getting blurry, you are getting hot, and stressed, simply stop and breath. These meditations can be done while sitting at your desk and no one will even know.
This also helps with those that have social anxiety disorder, panic attacks and more.
