Traveling with your baby can be a very exciting and stressed time. Especially when breastfeeding is involved. Many moms who haven't taken a vacation with their baby may not know the 3 tips to create the easiest way to travel.
The first tip is to pump a lot of milk prior to leaving for your trip. Start pumping four to six weeks before you plan on leaving, and continue to pump when you are in the car or have a little spare time. This allows you to build up your milk supply and make sure you have enough food. Only using the stored milk for the ride is an easy way to feed your baby while in a car and making sure you won't have to make extra stops to feed your little one. If you are not in the car, bring the baby to breast. This will give him a little extra comfort and will keep your supply available.
Another great tip is to breastfeed or pump if you are on a plane. Breastfeeding during takeoff and landing will ease ear pressure for your infant and will help keep them calm. You should check with the airport on their rules for breastfeeding and pumping on the plane. Some people feel uncomfortable with this. If it is allowed, use a blanket, breastfeeding wrap, sling, or other discreet method.
The best tip to making breastfeeding easy during travel is to take care of yourself. While on vacation, many people tend to go go go til they can't go any more. Being stressed and exhausted will lower your milk supply and make let down harder. Just take a break, relax, and spend some quality time with your baby. After all vacation is all about family!
