This year, August 1 to 7, 2009 has been designated World Breastfeeding Week. There are celebrations in over 150 countries, led by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA). WABA is a global network of individuals and organizations concerned with the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding worldwide.
This year's event is aimed at bringing awareness of how breastfeeding can serve as a lifeline and a shield for infants and young children in emergencies.
