The Billboard Music Awards nominations are out and leading the way is two of 2013’s breakthrough musical acts. According to Access Hollywood on April 9, New Zealand singer Lorde and the musical group Imagine Dragons are top contenders and finalists in 12 categories.
Both have singles that dominated the airwaves and it is no surprise they are amongst the nominees. Radio listeners couldn’t go an hour without hearing Lorde’s Grammy-winning multiplatinum hit “Royals” and Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive,” which also pulled in a Grammy.
Both singles will go up against Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” Katy Perry’s “Roar” and Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” for top Hot 100 song.
Imagine Dragons will also be battling it out with Cyrus, Perry, Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake for top artist.
Imagine Dragons and Lorde will both be looking to be as successful as they were in this year’s Grammys. Adding a Billboard Music Award to their trophy cases will round out a memorable year for both acts.
The 2014 Billboard Music Awards will air live on ABC on May 18.
