Breaking overnight, Monday, Aug. 19, forty-four-year-old Beau Biden was hospitalized in Houston, Texas. Good Morning America reported Tuesday, Aug. 20 that Beau, eldest son of Vice President Joe Biden, is undergoing testing at an undisclosed hospital in Houston, after suffering alarming symptoms while on vacation in Indiana with his family. His dad is by his side; however the White House has not released an official message on the details of Beau’s condition at this time.
Beau, the Attorney General of his home state of Delaware, is one of the “rising stars” of the Democratic Party. An Iraq war veteran, husband, and father of two, Biden has also been earmarked as a future governor and is hoped to one day fill the senate seat once held by his own father. However, like his father who had an aneurism at age 45, the younger Biden has a family medical history which makes this medical alarm potentially serious. Beau Biden himself also had a stroke three and a half years ago.
Last Wednesday, Beau began to suffer weakness and feel disoriented while driving his family to their Indiana vacation destination. The symptoms were similar to those he suffered three years ago when he had that mild stroke. As a precaution, due to concern over his first scare in 2010, Biden was immediately taken to Northwestern Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Thursday, he was transferred to Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, the same hospital that had treated him in 2010. Beau was discharged from the hospital and spent the past weekend with his family at home in Wilmington. He and the vice president even spent time relaxing and taking photo snapshots on the porch.
