UPDATE: Sumerian Records Creator and CEO Ash Avildsen released this statement roughly six hours after the band's original announcement:

"I woke up to a ton of missed calls and just saw all this stuff about Danny Leal of UABB posing as that he's been abducted or kidnapped. My phone hasn't stopped ringing since. As a child, we all learn the story 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf,' and it sticks within our consciousness for a reason. I do not condone this type of publicity stunt. This was done behind my back, and I am not OK with it.

"In my eyes, there's never a time to use the possibility of real-life abduction, injury or murder of someone you care about to promote anything, especially an album. If you need to resort to that, then you have lost the plot. We as a society should have evolved past that way of thinking by now and especially within the rock/metal community, given all the tragedy that has happened in our world over the past few years. There are some people who owe us an apology."

Upon A Burning Body is slated to release a new album Aug. 12. The SAMME's original article from earlier today appears below:

San Antonio metalcore band Upon A Burning Body revealed within the hour that singer Danny Leal has been reported missing.

Leal was last seen Monday in San Antonio, according to the group's Facebook page and Twitter accounts.

Leal's Twitter account offers a pair of disturbing sentiments. On Monday, he tweeted: "This same sketchy car has been driving past my house over and over for the past 3 days straight."

In a possible indication that the Monday tweet was written shortly before midnight, Leal tweeted Tuesday: "Wide awake now . . . I could've sworn I heard someone in my house!!!!!"

The band's label, Sumerian Records, posted on its Facebook account that Leal has been reported missing.

Upon A Burning Body is scheduled to perform on the seventh annual Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, which kicks off Saturday in San Bernardino, Calif. The festival ends with two Texas dates: Aug. 9 in Dallas and Aug. 10 in The Woodlands. The band has performed on Mayhem and Vans Warped tour, and it opened in Europe for Five Finger Death Punch, whose bassist Chris Kael endorsed the group during an interview with the SAMME last summer at the Mayhem Fest in Austin (see blue link below).

If anyone has information about Leal's whereabouts, they are urged to call the San Antonio Police Department.

Stay tuned here for updates as the situation develops.
