Breaking: Sarah Palin tweets response 'Spudnut' critics

In a Sarah Palin tweet, less than five minutes ago, Sarah Palin answered critics about bringing up a local landmark, The Spudnut, during a Wednesday night interview on Fox News. Palin was sharing her views on President Obama's State of the Union address in which Obama had urged Americans to aspire to "Sputnik moment(s)".

Relating to economic challenges, Sarah's statement is transcribed below:

If you’re near Richland, WA, you should stop by The Spudnut Shop, where you’ll find an all-American success story of a family owned small business that for over 60 years has been serving up a product that people want to buy. Businesses like this coffee shop don’t receive big government bailouts. They produce something with their own ingenuity and hard work. And here we see the former communist Soviet Union’s advancement (before its government debt-ridden demise) vs. America’s small businesses that are the backbone of our economy. We’d be well off if we had a greater appreciation for the free market ingenuity of ordinary American entrepreneurs, both great and small – whether they make high-tech gadgets or potato donuts.

Following is a transcript of Sarah Palin's Facebook page:

Please read this article by the Hoover Institution’s Research Fellow Peter Schweizer. Schweizer, who has written extensively on the subject of the decline and fall of the Soviet Union, offers a Washington Post writer an important refresher on the real history of Sputnik, since many critics are engaged in misreporting:

Palin’s other point is that Sputnik was the sort of government bureaucratic program that got the Soviet Union in trouble; it’s an example of what eventually did them in. Citing Wikipedia (what journalistic ingenuity!), Stromberg argues that actually the Soviet Union didn’t have a debt problem until some “thirty years after” Sputnik. Perhaps instead of relying on Wikipedia, Stromberg might have consulted Robert Gates’ book From the Shadows which chronicles, in part, his career as a Soviet analyst at the CIA. (Just in case they are unaware at the Post, this is the same Robert Gates who is now the Secretary of Defense.) On page 173, he accurately points out that the CIA knew early on of the “Soviet economic crisis. From the late 1950s, CIA had clearly described the chronic weaknesses as well as the formidable military power of the Soviet Union.”

A typical criticism below, reveals what is most obvious. The left is not upset about Sarah's use of "Spudnut"; they are upset, that Palin, like many conservatives are having a fun field day mocking Obama's "WTF" "Winning the Future" theme:

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin offered her thoughts on President Obama’s State of the Union address Greta Van Susteren Wednesday night, and while she cleverly zeroed in on the unfortunate abbreviation of the speech’s “Win The Future” theme, Palin’s analysis quickly went rogue with reality.

You heard it here in this column, first - before Obama's address:

The natural abbreviation for "Winning the Future", which would be used on social sites such as Twitter would end up reading, "Obama's WTF plan". Imagine! (Obama's 'Winning the Future' owned by Republican Gingrich & domain holder first - But there are three good reasons he shouldn't use it)

Sarah Palin is looking less and less presidential every day...I'd say about early spring, expect the "old Guard" republicans to tear her apart.

  • Deni 3 years ago

"The Washington Post, which never passes up an opportunity to attack Sarah Palin, has gone after her for criticizing President Barack Obama’s “Sputnik” reference in the State of the Union Address. Palin noted accurately that what Obama was calling for was “big government” as the solution to our problems. She further pointed out big government socialistic solutions are what in part did the Soviet empire in. Those comments sent Steve Stromberg at the Washington Post into a hyperbolic fit, declaring that her analysis is “weird.” But his response indicates that he knows as little about the Soviet Union and Sputnik as President Obama’s speechwriters." ~ Peter Schweizer

Ahhhh Dev…..ya just gotta love it when the libbies, who rush out to mock Sarah Palin, are proven to be simply ignorant of the subject matter with their Wikipedia research dependence, and Ms. Palin is…again…proven ‘in the know‘.

is sounding almost as convoluted as Sarwah with that flimsy excuse for her Spudnut plug. At least he wisely doesn't try to defend her crude, obscene language.

Sarwah has obviously abandoned the idea of a Presidential run.

Loved this Deni! "Intellectual debate is well and good, but if you’re going to condescend, you better have something to condescend about. In this case Steve Stromberg of the Washington Post just got schooled by Sarah Palin."

Paul, yes sir, she is indeed courageous, and the more they try to tear her down, the more they build her up!

Paul K, you are soooo right! If they did not fear her, she would be merely a distant memory!! They only have themselves to blame/credit with her constant spotlight! Lol!

Ken, HA! Great example, yes! Let the leftist rancor begin!! (Love the *fill in the blank* Lol)

Wow. Once again, Palin shows an inability to take responsibility for her own failures and shortcomings. This is yet another one of Palin's fatal flaws -- she is totally incapable of ever admitting that she made a mistake in a tweet, Facebook posting, speech, or during an interview.

"Hello, America. My name is Sarah Palin, and I am so blessed that my sh*t don't stink, don't ya know."

In Palin's infamous Sputnik moment, Sarah was trying to take a Six Degrees of Separation approach to explaining causal relationships in major historical events. This is what happens when you have a simplistic, comic book-level understanding of world history.

Palin has repeatedly demonstrated an inability for cogent, rational, substantive extemporaneous speaking, largely the result of her brain being on auto-pilot as she relies almost exclusively on memorized shallow, often snarky talking points during her speeches and (exclusively T-ball) interviews.

Bottom line. Palin won't waste her time with any interviewer who will not guarantee

    1) advanced screening of all questions

    2) no followup questions without her realtime permission.

On the other hand, her continual need to rationalize and justify her frequent faux pas with irrational and fabricated backstories illustrates why she is regarded as the Tommy Flanagan of national politics.

Labman57: Your comment is "parroted" from

Do you have *anything* original to add to this conversation?

  • Deni 3 years ago

    HAHAHAHA! Surprise, surprise...........

The left gets their propensity for plagiarism directly from their dear leader Øbama himself.

If it weren't for the *daily talking points memo* they all receive and parrot, they would have nothing to say at all! ;-)

    Hi Deni,

Right. It's like WTF? Why would Obama's Election 2012 Campaign managers toy with "Winning the Future" or any campaign slogan without at least the minimum of a basic Google vetting.

Was it you or Amy who mentioned, that now that, *thanks to Gore*, the "information highway" is available - why would someone lift a slogan for a presidential theme, or a comment typed elsewhere and think it might be foisted off on an unaware public as their very own original?

Have they no shame nor sense?

  • Devonia... 3 years ago

Winning the Future is not WTF and you know it, Stop acting like a computer illiterate hayseed that doesn't know any better. As far as jacking part of the title of a book from a has-been politician and an obscure website name, it was a move of marketing genius. Doing so signaled to anybody paying attention, "to the winner goes the spoils". With that small gesture, the leader of the western world has all your collective panties in a wad over a couple of words.

  • xx 3 years ago

Huh? Is there a gibberish translator in the house?

I really like Sarah and hope that she doesn't run for a national office. Why? Because she is so great at sending the Left into convulsive Tourettes episodes.

I think that if she can continue to rally the conservative base, attract the Left's piss & vinegar, and take the heat off of the folks really getting down to business of sorting this mess out....then I'm all for it.

However, if she does run and in some alternate universe actually wins, then I am afraid that this country will be saturated with Inquirer-grade stories and the vile-venom of the Left will consume what should be meaningful hours and days...
