BREAKING OKC Mayoral Election 2014 glitches stun: Pressing for a debate

Dr. Ed Shadid presented yet another stunning glitch. Apparently Mayor Mick Cornett has refused to debate as part of the Oklahoma City Mayoral Election 2014 process.

Deepest apologies from this writer to the OKLAHOMA Chapter of the League of Women Voters, who clearly cannot host a debate, if a central candidate refuses to participate. This writer has publicly, regularly questioned this problem in the wind for months, without definitive reply. Now the public has what appears to be a definitive, if not definitive final answer of refusal from the Mayor.

See the below the letter, OKC Mayoral Election 2014 Candidate, Dr. Ed Shadid released by email mid afternoon today, noting plans to press ahead for a proper series of debates to be hosted prior to the March 4th OKC Mayoral Election 2014. Typographical emphasis added by this writer.

Dear Oklahoma City Residents,

Mick Cornett has now announced to the media that he is unwilling to participate in mayoral debates prior to the March 4th election.

That a 13 year veteran of city government is unwilling to debate an elected city councilman should be a red flag for the people of Oklahoma City, the nation's 30 largest. I have a plan that emphasizes our neighborhood interests over special interests and the people deserve to hear the contrasting views of the candidates outside of prepared statements and 30 second sound bites. The people of Oklahoma City have not had a well-contested mayoral election in which the issues facing the city were thoroughly discussed in a decade. Tulsa had three mayoral debates during their mayoral race and the citizens of Oklahoma City deserve nothing less.

+++ A televised debate would give the voters an opportunity to hear the contrast between each candidate. We will continue to push for a debate.

We need a Mayor who will work to move ALL of Oklahoma City forward.

Let's build a healthier and happier OKC for EVERYONE. Join us today.

Dr. Ed Shadid has a Public Safety Townhall Meeting scheduled for later this week.

That meeting may also include an update or finalization of the status of the OKC MAPS petition.

Even with the plans to press towards debate, Dr. Ed Shadid continues to highlight voter participation and advance discussion of the need to get out the vote, especially women and the OKC Hispanic population, which has exploded about 80% in the last 10 years.
