Breaking News with Breaking Boundaries Dance Company



Contemporary Dance is becoming one of the most popular styles of dance every day. New to the Minneapolis area, is a Contemporary dance company called, "Breaking Boundaries." 

The company was founded by Deborah Johnson. Deborah is a veteran in the dance world. She began her training at a local competitive studio in Minneapolis, MN. She has received many rewards and accolades as a dancer, and choreographer. She has continued her training at Broadway Dance Center in NY. Deborah decided to open her own company after working with another contemporary company called "Crash Productions." While directing and choreographing at "Crash Productions", Deborah continues as a guest teacher at several studios throughout the Twin Cities. 

Breaking Boundaries is a training center and dance company with a focus on contemporary dance. The goal of the company is to break the boundaries of dance and push the enevelope of creativity, choreography, artistry, physicality and innovation. The company is composed of professional contemporary dancers from around the Twin Cities. The company will put on a few shows each year. The shows will be choreographed by members of the company and guest choreographers from around the area. They will aim to be a trendsetter in the world of contemporary dance.

The company is also a training center. They host monthly workshops of contemporary and hip hop. The workshop is open to dancers of all ages and levels. They also host open contemporary classes every Monday night at the Hennepin Center for the Arts. Breaking Boundaries is the only contemporary company to host open classes in the Twin Cities area. The company desires to help dancers grow and mature in an open, safe and challenging envoirment.

 Come to an open contemporary class and receive $5.00 OFF your first dance session or workshop! The next workshop will be November 15th from 11-3PM. Open contemporary classes are every Monday 8:30-10PM.

    do you which competitive studio deborah is from? Where did she learn contemporary? It sounds so exciting~I've always wanted to learn that style. I bet its not for begginers huh?

    The workshop is from 11-3pm @ Hennepin Center for the Arts (2 left this year- Nov 15 and Dec 13) and features 3-4 contemporary and hip-hop classes. It begins with a warm-up/conditioning portion and then alternates between contemporary and hip-hop combos taught by Deborah and Bridget Burke. Bridget is a company member and a very talented hip-hop dancer; she has been featured on the Ellen DeGeneres Show for her dancing.     In addition to Monday nights we also have open contemporary classes on Saturday morning from 11am-12:30pm, also at the Hennepin Center for the Arts, studio 5b.

    Dancers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome.

    Thanks so much for sharing! this is so cool! I've been trying to find a place that teaches contemporary stuff. I hope it's not the weird modern stuff though..where you have to be a tree. that's the weird kind. I like mia michaels style or tyce..

    I went to the contemporary class on Monday. It was great! Deborah is an extremely talented dancer! Her technique is amazing you should definitely check out their upcoming workshop!
